Thumbelina possesses a short stature as a kid

With a naturally amusing appearance just enough to make people around her giggle,

but weakness oozes too strongly in her eyes that it can be sensed by the intimidating

So little Thumbelina had to train to be stronger than how people perceived her to be from the outside so she can defend herself from woes and beasts

She wanted to be slender and feminine like the others

But she was built muscular because she was

destined to carry heavy things along her way

She despised her unusually masculine arms

which she did not know she would be needing

to turn the sick and needy to sides in infirmaries

And provide the dying dignity on their deathbeds

She did not like her sturdy bamboo legs either

but it was this pair of legs which carried her through in playing football and even baseball

She did not know that she'd be running a lot on the field as a teen

She did not have the slightest idea that the same pair of legs would carry her weight well as she'd climb mountains and walk unfamiliar roads endlessly

That they would carry her through very bumpy roads less traveled

Oh what an enormous gift it truly is to be young, wild, healthy and free

But Thumbelina is a grown-up now

She is still the smallest in the room but atleast she's got magic dust and trinkets in her pocket

She sprinkled beauty out of the little monster sprouts in the paths she walked past through

She fell in love, got hurt and did not know how to mend a broken heart

She sat and sobbed a lot but even if the tiny light bulb that she had was too dim to shed her light,

She still pulled some needles and strings from the handy-dandy wooden kit and sewed back all her broken pieces together

And though her heart got broken by love and circumstances many times,

She never forgets that it is still capable of giving

and accepting love

She strewed the love she was not given to the sick even if her cup was almost empty

Because she turns into a care bear at work and had to aid the wounded even if she herself was heavily wounded too

But the heart is indeed a beating wonder even if it wears and tears

And the heart was created to love

And love, even if it withers and dies,

Can and will still grow and bloom again like tulips in Keukenhof Gardens during springtime

But there are different kinds of love and she thought in the end that even if she lost her prince, maybe someday love will find her again but in a different light

She was not born ambitious but her circumstances made her so

She was torn by everything ugly, evil and unpleasant that sometimes happens to creatures even in the down under

She tasted the poison of poverty and nothingness

And it was a dreadful place to be

But it was her weapon to push through

Her pain was poison at first

but she used it to become her beautiful remedy

Courage woke her up one day and told her not to quit

But sometimes the ogres whisper bad things so loudly that she needed to focus on the humming of the heavenly deities

She was told that she was a loser

And she bought that narrative at first

But thank the rustles of the fairies, she refused to live like one

She rose, picked up her armor and went to battle

With faith, hope, prayer and a big dream and faced the humongous beetles and toads head on

She was shaped by all the chaos she has survived,

by the books she has read and by all the prerogatives she stands firm in and clothes herself in scarlet robes of kindness and inner strength

She listens now to the guiding voices of the pixies more than the nuisance of the world

She may be cowardly at times

But she has created elixirs to overpower them

She may remain as a tiny speck in the universe but little by little, she takes up space

And that already is a big win for that cowardly child who believed that she would remain below mediocre

And below mediocre is not even a bad thing

It entails a peaceful life with less to no responsibility

But maybe she is destined for greater things

It sounds delusional to feed a fantasy like hers but look at how far she has come

Atleast from zero to humble beginnings to a little something she earned through hardwork

She is still scared like a little girl left by her mom in a dark corner but she will survive.

I bet she always will because she is a fighter.

She gathered the stories and moments that live in her heart and placed them in her labyrinth

So that when she's sad and blue, she could relive everything that was precious in her mind

She paused and looked at them and smiled and laughed while the sun hid behind the thick dark clouds

Oh how redeeming it is to be happy again and to walk on rainbows after drowning in endless thunderstorms

Til then, it drizzled again and heavy rain poured

As the rain came to a halt,

she stopped at the sight of shimmering prairie mallows from afar

On the petals were words which came one by one but disappeared right after the other revealed itself

And a beautiful message came out into view:

"You have to believe that you can be everything you aspire to be first and the universe conspires indeed to make your dreams come true."

Thumbelina was at a loss for words

She felt the kind of magic rushing into her blood

And like a caterpillar slowly turning into a butterfly,

She is now spreading her wings

And becoming the beautiful magnificent critter that she is destined to be

She may still be one of the ordinary but atleast, she has become special in her own sight

And she's giving herself the love she deserves that little Thumbelina sought everywhere for but received in all the wrong places

Thumbelina took a glance again at her magic dust and trinkets with an effervescent smile

Afterall it was not just the magic that came from them which made her who she is now but they were just part of what helped her form her entirety

And though she just came from a barley grain and is just as small as a thumb, she radiates resilience just enough to illuminate the future from the shadows of the past

She flaps her beautiful, transparent wings which was gifted to her by that large silver fly and tightens her corset-style vest as she comes to terms with everything that's pleasant or not and makes peace with both her angels and demons because she knows her worth now

She embraces the woman she is becoming and pours her once-empty-cup with more love and that is all that matters.
